Blowing rock is a place which is seated at a height of 1500 ft above the John River gorge. The unusual rock formation in and around the city also contributes to its name. The city is a town in North Carolina sharing two counties, Caldwell and Watauga.The population of the town is 1,418 according to the 2000 census. Due to the influx of tourists the population increases by 10,000 during the summer season. The main visitors of the town are from the Florida State.The climate of the town is very cool. It is also called as the town where “snow falls upside down” by “Ripley’s believe it or not” in an entertainment channel.Blowing Rock is located at the base of the Blue Ridge mountain range with a total area of 3.0 square miles, 3.0 square miles of it is land and 1.00% of total area is water. The town’s economy is partially based on tourism. The mountainous terrain provides scenic views with long-range vistas from several locations around the town, including Blowing Rock itself.
