In the state of North Carolina in the United States, Cornelius is a town that is located in Mecklenburg County. This town is situated 18 miles towards the North of Charlotte, North Carolina and 16 miles towards the West of Concord, North Carolina. This town is a part of the Charlotte – Gastonia – Rock Hill metropolitan region. To reach this town, there are international flights from the Charlotte/ Douglas International Airport. The town of Cornelius was founded in 1905, basically as a farm and mill community. Gradually, the mills were closed down and a dam was constructed across the River Catawba. In recent years, this town has experienced considerable growth due to its proximity with Charlotte.
The population of Cornelius as per the 2000 census was 11,969.
July is the warmest month with a temperature range of 68 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. January is the coldest month with a temperature range of 28 to 51 degrees Fahrenheit. The average annual precipitation is 47.3 inches.
