In 1939, a General Assembly of North Carolina chartered the Raleigh-Durham Aeronautical Authority and this changed in 1945 to Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority. At present, The Raleigh-Durham International Airport is governed by the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority. More than 9.7 million of passengers traveled through the RDU in 2008 and this has been one of the highest passenger counts on record.
