Wilmington has a historic downtown region with a one mile long, River Walk as the main tourist attraction, situated on the Cape Fear River. Wilmington city is designated as “A Coast Guard City”, through an act by the Congress. This is also a home port for the USCGC Diligence.

Wilmington is known as the childhood basketball home for great players such as Michael Jordan and David Brinkley.
In Wilmington sports like Baseball, Basketball and Soccer were established. Wilmington Baseball team was founded in the year 1997, Soccer in 1996 and Basketball in 2006.

It has a major port, shipbuilding center and pine forest products. It was the largest cotton exchange center in the world. It remains the historical core of the community. One can spend the entire day shopping; visiting the Island’s history museum or playing tennis at the park or volleyball on the beach in this city.
