Fargo is situated in North Dakota, US. Home to the North Dakota State University, it serves as the seat of Cass County. With a population of around 190,000, it is the economic centre of the state.
Fargo has an extreme continental climate due to its location amidst the Great Plains and its distance from the mountains and oceans. Its climate is characterised by hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters.
During the eighteenth century, the city was a stopping point for steamboats floating across the Red River. The city, initially known as ‘Centralia’ started to flourish after the construction of railroad and came to be known as the ‘Gateway to the West’.
The economy of the city is mainly dependent on its agriculture industry. Other prominent sectors include manufacturing, food processing, retail, education and healthcare.Explore map
