Grand Forks is the county seat of Grand Forks and is also the third largest city in the entire North Dakota region.
The population of the city is 51,740. Grand Folks is located along the western banks of the Red river and is plain region called the Red River Valley.
The climate of the area is dominated by its location in the Great Plains giving it an extreme continental climate. The climate is differentiated by four very distinct seasons.
The city was originaaly named as Les Grandes Fourches by the French fun traders. Captain Alexander Griggs founded the city in 1870. Later, on February 22, 1881 it was incorporated.
