The Americana Fourth of July Festival was started in the year 1972 as a sidewalk sale which was promoted by the Centerville downtown merchants. The merchants association later managed to get a permission from the City to close the streets for a 4th of July Festival. The Festival is held every year in Centerville and kicks off with the American Parade in early morning and travels down the stretchy Franklin Street. The actual Festival follows the Parade held on the Main Street and features many locals with crafts on sale. Other local institutions also erect their own booths and give out free memorabilia. At the end of the Festival the night sky is ignited by the annual fireworks show at the High School.
