The Dayton Art Institute is an art museum situated in Dayton in Ohio. The museum ranks in the top three percent of all North American art museums in 3 out of 4 measurements. The museum was founded in a downtown mansion in the year 1919 as the Dayton Museum of Fine Arts. However, in 1930, it was moved to its own building. It is designed after the Italian Renaissance Villa d ’Este, near Rome and the Villa Farnese at Caprarola in Italy. The museum collection has more than 20,000 objects which span to 5,000 years. The 60,000 square foot of building is at present, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
