The Stone Academy Museum is considered as one of the oldest and the most historic building in Muskingum County. It was constructed in 1809 by Dr. Increase Mathews, Ebenezer Buckingham and Levi Whipple. It was especially designed for serving as the new state capitol building. At present, a museum it even functioned as a public building until in 1840 when it became the private residence. The exhibits like the popular hidden trap door under the staircase are worth watching.
