The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is a nonprofit zoo which is situated in Powell in Ohio. The zoo is largely attributable due to the efforts and promotion initiated by its director, Jack Hanna. In 2009, it named as the number one zoo in America by the USA Travel Guide. This zoo is home to more than 5,000 animals that represent more than 700 species. It has over 1.8 million visitors each year. There are also animal exhibits which are divided to regions of the world and at present the zoo operates around eight such regions. Moreover, this zoo has an 18 hole golf course, which is known as the Safari Golf Club. Then, it also has Jungle Jack’s Landing and Zoombezi Bay. The zoo owns 580 acres of land and operates its own conservation program. The original Columbus zoo was situated in Clintonville and it opened in 1905. However, it closed in 1905. The present zoo opened in 1927 as the Columbus Zoological Gardens.
