The Northwestern Oklahoma State University was founded in the year 1897 as a normal school. The main building of the college was the Castle on the Hill, a big beautiful brick building which was modeled after a Norman Castle. This historic building towered most of the town buildings. However, this castle burned down in 1935, and was replaced with Jesse Dunn Hall, dedicated in 1937 by Eleanor Rossevelt.
