Tourist Guide Claremore
Claremore is a city and a county seat of Rogers County in Oklahoma. This city is a part of the Tulsa Metropolitan Area. Being located in Green County, the region’s green vegetation and high amount of lakes and hills are there in the city than other cities of Oklahoma.
Claremore was at first settled by a band of Osage Indians in 1802 and was named after their chief, Gra-moi. However, when French traders came to the city, they pronounced it as Clairmont, meaning mountain with a clear view. After the Indian Removal Act of 1830, the city became a part of the Indian Territory and the Cherokee Nation.
The population of the city was 15, 873 as per the 2000 census and as of 2007, it increased to 17,200.
This city has a total area of 12.3 square miles as per the United States Census Bureau, of which 12.0 square miles is land and the rest 0.2 square miles is water.
Coal mining is a significant industry in Claremore along with strip style mines.
