Tahlequah lies at the foothills of the Ozark Mountains and is situated in Cherokee County in Oklahoma in U.S.A. The city covers a total area of 12 sq miles and has an elevation of 797 feet. As per the 2000 census, the city had a population of 14,458 people. The city is the capital of the Cherokee Nation and there are several marks of the Native American heritage and Cherokee’s found all over the city.
The street signs and business plates are inscribed in the Cherokee language along with bits and pieces of English. The cost of living is one of the lowest in the nation. The climate is pleasant, though summers can be hot and dry in July and August while winters are cold but do not last long. The city gets 7 inches of snowfall and 46 inches of rain on an average.
