Olympic National Park is located in the Olympic Peninsula of north-western Washington State, USA. It was designated as a national park in 1938 and as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981 because of its natural diversity.
From the centre of the park rise the famed Olympic Mountains with their massive glaciers. Snow-capped Mount Olympus is the highest point of the area at 2500 m.
The park has warm, dry summers with temperatures staying around 21°C. Fog can be a common occurrence during this time. Maximum rainfall occurs in December and January with temperatures dropping below 5°C. The mountains can be quiet chilly at times.
Two native communities reside in the Olympic National Park the Hoh tribe (about 100 people) which stay adjacent to the Hoh River, and the Quileute clan (nearly 800 people) which inhabits the town of La Push.
