Astoria: Attractions and more...
The visitors should try to catch a performance of Shanghaied in Astoria which is staged by the Astor Street Opry Company. Several musical melodramas and other performances are usually held from July to September. The Liberty Theater is another beautifully restored movie palace that is worth visiting. The city of Astoria is for the explorers.
The exciting attractions include the Heritage Center Museum, Fort Stevens State Park, Fort Astoria, Flavel House Museum, Uppertown Fire Fighters Museum and the Columbia River Maritime Museum. The museums show the fine display of nautical artifacts and model ships. The town of Astoria is only few minutes’ drive from the Pacific Ocean while the nearby Cannon beach is also worth a visit.
The city celebrates the Scandinavian heritage with the Scandinavian Midsummer Festival. The festival, held in mid-June features smorgasbord of old world delicacies, authentic Scandinavian musicians, dancing, crafts, ethnic entertainment and a parade.
