Hells Canyon is the world’s deepest gorge found here and is situated in Hells Canyon National Recreation Area which covers more than 650,000 acres. There are numerous animals and birds found in this region including the bighorn sheep, bear, bobcats, deer and cougars. This scenic natural area lies along the Snake River and can be visited on foot or horseback. Cavin Walfel is an outstanding museum worth visiting for its famous rock collections, collection of carriages and other artifacts. Alder House Museum is a manor house built in the 1900s and has numerous historic displays. The Sumpter Valley Railroad is a railroad museum listed on the National Register of Historic Places and tourists can travel on the railway which runs in this place for 8 km to experience the working of this locomotive. There are numerous attractions in and around Baker City and one can visit the towns of Union and Haines which lie in close proximity from the city.
