Bordered by the Deschutes National Forest and the Cascade Mountains, the city of Bend is located along the Deschutes River in the high desert plateau of central Oregon, USA. With a varied topography consisting of lush forests, high mountain peaks, lava fields and barren desert areas, the city covers an area of 83.5 sq km.
The city has a dry, arid climate with very little rain. Summers are warm with temperatures hovering around 25°C. The temperatures drop in the evenings due to the elevation. Winter temperatures are around 5°C.
With a population of over 75,000, Bend is central Oregon’s most populated city with tourism as the largest industry. Considered as the gateway to the regions abundant recreational activities, the rugged terrain facilitates mountain climbing and cycling.
The contrasting landscape of snow-capped mountains and arid desert land makes it a popular destination on the tourist map.
