This remote fishing community is built on a wooden boardwalk and has no roads. The Wheel Watch Lodge and Highliner Lodge are located in the heart of town and provide housing facilities to visitors. Salmon Way (the main street) is a 1.5 km long boardwalk that is popular among photographers.
The scenic setting of Pelican provides for a relaxing break from the bustle of other Alaskan regions. Phonograph Cove offers breathtaking views, while the remote Bartlett Cove and Elfin Cove are perfect for absorbing the unspoiled beauty of the region.
Not to be missed is the West Chichagof-Yakobi Island Wilderness Area which has beautiful cabin sites like Greentop, Goulding Lakes and the more frequented White Sulphur Springs (boasting a natural hot spring bathhouse and a few hiking trails).
When in Pelican, also get a glimpse of fauna like Sitka blacktail deer, brown bears, whales, seals, otters and the more elusive bald eagles.
