One of the important tourist destinations in the Block Island is the Southeast Lighthouse, constructed in 1875, and is situated towards the southeast tip of the island on Mohegan Trail. It acts as a lively US Coast Guard and helps in navigation. The light house holds a museum which is opened during summer for the tourists. The lighthouse was selected in 1997 as a US National Historic Landmark.
