One of the important sites of interest in Ephrata is the Ephrata community or Ephrata Cloister. It was a religious organization which was established by Johann Conrad Beissel in 1732. The community’s ground is now held by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and it is under the control of Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. This organization came into existence with the movement of pietistic Schwarzenau Brethren.
