Tourist Guide Jim Thorpe
Jim Thorpe is a borough situated in Carbon County in Pennsylvania. It is the county seat of Carbon County. Due to the picturesque scenery and mountainous areas, it is known as the “Switzerland of America”. It was earlier known as Mauch Chunk city and was founded in 1818. Both the boroughs of East Mauch Chunk and Mauch Chunk merged together and adopted this name, Jim Thorpe. It is named following the death of renowned athlete and Olympic player, Jim Thorpe in 1953.
As per the 2000 census, the population of the borough was 4,804 people. By 2009, the population estimates to 4,878 people.
