Founded in 1806, Mechanicsburg was incorporated in 1828. It was named so for the large number of mechanics living in the area.
The climate and terrain of the town facilitate agriculture as is evident in the large number of farms. The beautiful landscape bundled with government emphasis on tourism has managed to attract a fairly large number of tourists. Jubilee Day, the largest one day street festival, is held in Mechanicsburg every year and attracts over 60,000 people.
