Congress Hall - Attractions in Philadelphia

Congress Hall situated in the Independence Hall area in Philadelphia is a respectable building which previously was the Philadelphia County Courthouse.

This was used as a meeting place of the Congress from 1790 to 1800 when Philadelphia was the capital of the United States while Washington DC was yet under construction.

Some important decisions such as the addition of the Bill of Rights to the constitution, the addition of new states such as the Vermont and Tennessee and the appointment of George of Washington and John Adams were done in the second floor of the building.

The first floor in the house of chambers was occupied by the House of Representatives. In the south bay is a place where the representatives drank and relaxed.

The secretary's desk, the chairs, the mural of an eagle holding an olive branch and the plaster decoration on the ceiling are genuine and add an elegant touch to the place.
