Founder’s Hall designed by the architect who later drew up the plans for the United States Capitol building’s domes is located on the 43-acre Girard College campus. The Greek Revival architecture is prevalent in the style of the majestic building, intended for classroom usage in the boarding college intended for disadvantaged white males only, until the mid-1980s. Funded by American’s richest man at the time of its construction, the area surrounding Founder’s Hall later became a protest site for ongoing civil rights protests, some of which were led by Martin Luther King, Jr. The columned building sits at the center of the Girard Campus and is bigger than the Parthenon. It is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
