Located on the oldest residential street in the United States, Elfreth’s Alley Museum is filled with intriguing historical trivia and displays that help to understand the lifestyles of the people who lived in the neighborhood back in the early 1700s . The quaint cobblestone-lined alley has tenants who’ve preserved the integrity of the area. Named after Jeremiah Elfreth, a blacksmith who built many of the homes himself, the alley takes one back in time with its charm. Two of the homes are used for tours and the gift shop. There’s even a house-by-house cellphone tour that narrates the slice of history about the area with its 32 buildings, including one occupied by two dressmakers whose sewing business tell the story of early American women and how the evolution of history changed everyone’s way of life, especially for the middle-class citizens living in the area.
