The Pittsburgh zoo is one of the only six major zoo and aquarium combinations in the United States and is located in Pennsylvania’s Highland Park, Pittsburgh. The zoo was opened on June 14, 1898. It covers around 77 acres of park land and exhibits over 4,000 animals representing 475 species out of which around 75 species are threatened or endangered. The zoo is also a participant of 64 species of survival plans.
