Scranton can be described as a city located in Pennsylvania’s north-eastern part, in US. It’s, in fact, county seat with respect to Lackawanna.

Scranton has been regarded as a cultural and geographic center with respect to Lackawanna River Valley. It’s the biggest city situated in contigious quilt-work pertaining to previous anthracite coal mining communities; inclusive of petite cities of Carbondale, Pittston, and Wilkes-Barre. This place got incorporated in the form of a borough on 14th of February, 1856. Besides, it got incorporated in the form of a city on 23rd of April, 1866.

As per US Census Bureau, area of Scranton on the whole comes out to be 65.9 sq. Km; out of which 0.5 sq. Km consists of water. Elevation of Scranton is around 229 m above ‘sea level’. The place is found to be hilly; with inhabited parts ranging between 220 m and 425 m. Scranton has been flanked by numerous mountains on the eastern and western sides; elevations of whose range between 1900 feet and 2100 feet.

As per census conducted in the year 2000, population of Scranton was 76415.
