The Pennsylvania State University is the main tourist attraction here with the Old Main which was built in 1863 and includes frescos and mural paintings of Henry Varnum Poor in the main foyer.
This educational institute is well known for its attractive college campus which includes a number of museums. The college of Agricultural Science with its botanical garden display, deer pens and sheep research center is situated here.

The university also encompasses the Frost Entomological Museum which is a natural history museum displaying more than 700,000 specimen of insects.
The Palmer Museum of Art has galleries depicting sculptures, paintings, ceramics and other work of art from all over the world.
Center Furnace Mansion is a furniture display of the Thompson family which has been now included in the National Register of Buildings.
