The City Hall in Philadelphia is the seat of the government and was the tallest and most expensive building in the world until 1908.

The building is made primarily with materials like granite, marble and limestone instead of steel.

Since there was no use of steel frames, the walls of the ground floor of the building were made twenty two ft thick to support the rest of the structure with 8 floors, each one sixteen feet in height.

The central tower is five hundred and eleven feet high with the statue of William Penn on top built by artist Alexander Calder.

There are more than seven hundred rooms in the building arranged around the central courtyard and each of these is beautifully decorated with magnificent chandeliers, blue and gold ceilings and red marble columns.

The building consists of three branches of the government including the judicial branch's civil courts, the City Council or the Legislative and the Mayor's Office.
