The town of Middletown is situated in Newport County in Rhode Island, USA. Located between Newport and Portsmouth on Aquidneck Island, it covers an area of 38.7 sq km and has a population of 19,000.
Middletown has a temperate climate due to the warm gulf currents. The cooling ocean breezes keep the summer temperatures at around 22°C. Temperatures in winter fall below 0°C.
Incorporated in 1743, Middletown is part of one of Rhode Island’s earliest settlements. Its rich and diverse cultural heritage is visible in its many museums.
The town has an ideal shoreline with beaches, sand dunes and grassy areas. Bordered by the Narragansett Bay, Sachuest River and the Atlantic Ocean, the town is a great place for a beach vacation. Other popular attractions in Middletown are the Newport Vineyards and Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge.
