The town of Smithfield is situated in Providence County in northern Rhode Island, USA. It covers an area of 71.9 sq km and has a population of 8,000.

Smithfield has a humid, continental climate, with hot summers and cold winters. In summer, the temperature ranges from 18°C to 28°C. In winter, the temperature varies from 3°C to –7°C.

The town displays a unique blend of rural and suburban lifestyles. Smithfield contains several historic villages that give visitors a glance into rural tradition. Founded in 1730, this farming community gradually grew into a manufacturing centre.

Smithfield has seven natural and manmade ponds, which provide recreation and natural beauty for both residents and visitors. The scenic landscape is made up of forested lands, and several apple orchards and farms. The Bryant University is a popular tourist landmark in Smithfield.
