The town of South Kingstown is situated in Washington County and is located at the south-eastern edge of Rhode Island, USA. With a total area of 206.6 sq km, it is the largest town in Rhode Island.
The climate is warm in summer with an average temperature of 21°C. In winter, it gets very cold with temperatures falling to –2°C. Rainfall is evenly distributed throughout the year.
In 1675, it was the site of the battle of King Philip’s War between Native Americans and the colonists. The town has grown from an agricultural community to a manufacturing hub with a population of around 30,000. The presence of the University of Rhode Island also contributes to the economy.
Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, the town is an ideal place for boating, and its sandy beaches attract a number of tourists every year. The landscape is made up of salt water marshes, farmlands and woodlands that contribute to the beauty of the area.
