Kingston is a small village in South Kingstown which has a number of historic buildings that have been renovated such as the Kingston Free Library which was once the county court house for the General Assembly meetings of the Rhode Island.
The historical building that was renovated is the Pettaquamscutt Historical Society, which was previously the county jail.
The University of Rhode Island is the main public research university in the state with its main campus here. There are more than four thousand graduate students and fourteen thousand undergraduate students in the university.
The botanical gardens of the university have beautiful landscaped gardens such as the shade garden, the Chester Clayton Rose garden, a memorial white garden, the annual garden, the Matthew J. Horridge Conservatory and more.
The Helme House Gallery is set in a historic house and the museum is home to the south county Art Association which features regular art shows and classes.
Museum of Primitive Art and Culture is the oldest museum here and displays more than fifteen thousand ethnological and archaeological objects from all across the world.
