Established in 1729, the town is the county seat of Washington County. It was named by an industrialist, Rowland Hazard, after the town in England. Its Native American history and industrial past is well preserved in its quaint homes and museums.
Wakefield is lined with a number of churches and old shops. Its terrain is conducive for sports like golf, as is evident in the many golf resorts. With a quite atmosphere and a simple yet scenic landscape, Wakefield is gradually becoming a preferred destination for family vacations.
