People driving in the city can be rash and tend to avoid turn signals and take sharp turns so be aware at crossings and turns especially if you are on foot.

The towing companies also do not abide by the rules and may pick up vehicles that are legally parked as well so avoid parking on the streets while in the cities of Rhode Island.

The police are corrupt and may unnecessarily charge you for no fault of yours so try and avoid getting into any legal hassles. Certain areas like the South Providence area should be avoided by tourists as it has a high drug rate and is a crime prone area.

The other areas to beware of are the Smith Hill area, Thayer Street and the Federal Hill area.

Also avoid visiting the pubs and bars late at night as there have been histories of bar fights and mugging in such places. Avoid driving when weather conditions are bad and there is heavy snow.
