Woonsocket is located in Providence County in Rhode Islands, USA. It was incorporated as a city in 1888 prior to which it was inhabited by several Native American tribes like the Nipmucs and Wampanoags. This city now has a population of approximately 43,000 and an area of around 20 sq km.
Due to its location on River Blackstone, the textile industry in this city flourished considerably well, and since the nineteenth century, Woonsocket has primarily been an industrial city.
The Blizzard of 1978, violent storms accompanied by heavy snowfall, was a nightmare in the history of Woonsocket. It caused widespread loss of life and property, and the city was buried under 54 inches of snow.
The city enjoys a pleasant climate all through the year. The maximum average summer temperature is approximately 27°C, and the maximum average winter temperature is nearly 4°C.
