The Alamo, a former fortress compound, is now a famous museum in San Antonio. Built in the eighteenth century, it has been the site of various military operations. A jewel attraction of Antonio is the River Walk, which is lined with various retail outlets, restaurants, bars and theatres. On New Year’s Eve as well as Christmas Eve, this place transforms into a fiesta of lights.
San Antonio also houses the Marion Koogler McNay Art Museum, the first museum of modern art in Texas. Also, the San Antonio Museum of Art is a significant museum which displays an exhaustive collection of Asian and Latino art.
The Texas Folklife Festival is the most important arts and crafts fair held in August at the Institute of Texan Culture. Fiesta is an annual festival held in the honour of the heroes of the Battle of Alamo and Battle of Jacinto.
