Tourist Guide Blacksburg
Blacksburg, which has a population of about 1,880 at the 2000 census, is a town located in the Cherokee County in South Carolina. The communities of Mt. Paren, Buffalo, Cashion Cross roads, King Creek, Cherokee Falls are situated within the town. In the late 1800s, a huge amount of iron ore was discovered in the town, and it was nicknamed as the “Iron city”. It was the first town in the state of South Carolina to have electric street lights. The State Park and Kings Mountain National Park, is situated 5 miles north east of Blacksburg and commemorates a battle of the Revolutionary War. The Blacksburg Times, which is published on Thursday, is the newspaper of the town. The four public schools situated in Blacksburg include Blacksburg High School, Blacksburg Middle School, Blacksburg Elementary School and Blacksburg Primary School. The total area of the town comes up to 1.9 square miles according to the United States Census Bureau.
