Culture buffs can visit the West Virginia State Museum or the huge Clay Centre for the Arts & Sciences which has several sub-museums. A performance at the West Virginia Symphony is definitely worth a watch for any visitor to Charleston.
You can head to the State Capitol building which has the largest state capitol dome in the USA, covered in 23-karat gold leaves. A guided tour of this magnificent building will also lead you to the State History Museum, the Lincoln Walks at Midnight statue and the quaint Holly Grove Mansion.
Get an idea of what Charleston is all about at the West Virginia Dance Festival, usually held at the end of April, and the International Film Festival, which takes place in November and again in April. Treat yourself to traditional mountain art, crafts, music and food at the Memorial Day Vandalia Gathering.
Coonskin Park with its pedal boats, golf course and a hiking trail will make an excellent end to your sightseeing.
