South of the Border is known as the name SOB, and is a unique combination of Old Mexico and Dixie. At first, a visitor wonders what all the Mexican stuff and thousands of miles from its natural habitat is doing in South Carolina at the first place. However, in a short time, one accepts this place as neon yellow and pink Tijuana, with added benefit, that its inhabitants speak English and the water is quite safe to drink. There is also a mascot here called as Pedro, who is a grinning mustachioed cartoon topped with an oversized sombrero. The place always amazes the visitors to return as it continues to evolve, cast its nets in diverse directions as accepted taste changes course. There are big Vegas like electronic signs which announce special deals. What’s more, there is also a jogging trail which runs around the par 3 course. The man behind the park conception was Alan Schafer who died at the age of 87 in 2001.
