Edisto Island is a famous sea island in South Carolina and is also a census designated place that is located in Charleston County. Edisto Island is sometimes confused with Edisto Beach, a town in Colleton County, which is a different entity. The island is located about 15 km to the south of Charleston at an elevation of 8 feet above sea level. According to the 2000 census the population in the city was found to be around 2,632. The population indicates that it is a sparsely populated region in South Carolina. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town is supposed to have a total area of about 67.8 square miles, out of which 67.6 square miles is covered by land and only 0.2 square miles is under water which indicates that only 0.92 percent of the total area is under water. The island has two famous resorts Wyndham Timeshare and Edisto Beach that are the center of attraction here. The island has a humid sub-tropical climate with average temperatures ranging between 20 to 25 degrees throughout the year.
