Spartanburg is the seat of Spartanburg County in South Carolina, USA. Located at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the city covers an area of 49.9 sq km and has a population of around 40,000.

Spartanburg enjoys a mild climate that is conducive to outdoor activities throughout the year. The average summer temperature is around 27°C, while the average winter temperature is around 5°C.

Spartanburg was named for a unit of American Revolution forces called the ‘Spartan Rifles’ who helped defeat the British at the battle of Cowpens in 1781. Incorporated as a city in 1880, Spartanburg grew due to the rapidly expanding textile industry.

Spartanburg has a beautiful scenery, historical sites and hospitable people. Known as ‘The Crossroads of the New South’, it is conveniently located close to the Appalachian ski slopes and the coastal region of the state.
