Watch your step while walking around the Swan Lake and Iris Gardens as some places may have bird excrement which can stick to your shoes and make them dirty.
While strolling or exercising in the park after dark make sure that you wear reflective clothing or carry a flashlight and avoid biking late at night.
While riding bikes on some of the biking trails it is recommended to follow safety guidelines such as having reflectors on the bike while riding in the dark or taking precautions at road crossings and wearing helmets.
In some regions of the city racial segregation is felt and although there are fifty percent Blacks and fifty percent Whites in Sumter County there are places where visitors might feel unwelcome.
