The South Carolina Railroad Museum Inc was established in 1973 by a group of railroad enthusiasts from the Charleston and the Columbia, South Carolina areas. At present, the museum operates on five miles of the 11.5 mile line of the former Rockton and Rion Railroad. The museum has also collected lots of pieces of rolling stock through gifts from the Charleston chapter of the National Railway Historical Society.
