Tourist Guide De Smet
The city of De Smet is the county seat of Kingsbury County in the South Dakota region.
The population of the city is 1,164. De Smet was named after Father Pierre De Smet who was a 19th century Jesuit missionary. The city happens to be childhood home of Laura Ingalls Wilder and also birth place of author Rose Wilder Lane.
Since 1971, the city of De Smet has been hosting a pageant which extends over several weekends in July in honor of Laura Ingalls Wilder. About five of her classic works are based on her experiences surrounding the community.
The city is famous overnight destination for travelers on the way to Mount Rushmore and the Black Hills of South Dakota region.
