The city of Hot Springs is the seat of Fall River County in South Dakota, USA. Located in the southern end of the Black Hills, the city is spread over an area of 7.5 sq km and has a population of around 10,000.
Hot Springs has a dry climate. Its location in the Black Hills facilitates a pleasant weather with little or no wind and low humidity. Summers are pleasantly warm with an average temperature of 20°C, while winters are cool with an average temperature of –1°C.
Hot Springs derives its name from Evans Plunge whose spring water naturally maintains a temperature of 31°C. The city was developed as a resort area after the arrival of the railroad in 1892.
Hot Springs is blessed with a gorgeous landscape made up of the lush greenery of the Black Hills region. The Mammoth Site, a museum built around an active excavation of mammoth fossils, is a huge attraction.
