Huron city is situated in Beadle County in South Dakota. It is the county seat of Beadle County. This city is home to the South Dakota State Fair, which is held for five days prior to Labor Day. The city was named after the Huron Indians. Moreover, the city is home to a statue which is known as “The World’s Largest Ring necked Pheasant”. This city has early history which is closely linked with the Northwestern Railway and Chicago.
In 1879 the town site was located and in 1883, it was incorporated as a city.
The population of the city was 11,893 as per the 2000 census. As per 2009 census, the population reached to 10,902 people. And since 2000, it has had a population growth of -8.27 percent.
As per the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.3 square miles, out of which 8.2 square miles is land and 0.1 square miles is water.
