Tourist Guide Mitchell
Mitchell is the seat of Davison County in South Dakota, USA. Located in the James River valley near Firesteel Creek, the city has an area of 28.2 sq km. It has a population of around 20,000 with agriculture as the major occupation.
The area was originally inhabited by Arikara and Sioux Indians. The Mitchell Prehistoric Indian Village and the museum bear witness to the life and culture of the original inhabitants.
Mitchell has a humid temperate climate. Summers are hot with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 28°C. Winters are very cold and dry with temperatures varying from –3°C to –15°C.
Mitchell’s biggest attraction is the Corn Palace. Known as ‘the agricultural showplace of the world’, the structure is decorated with coloured corns creating themed murals. The Enchanted World Doll Museum, with its collection of over 4,000 dolls from around the world, is a delightful attraction for people of all ages.
