There are a number of museums in the town of Mitchell which are worth visiting.
Corn Palace is an agricultural museum which was started in the year 1892 and displayed the harvests made by the early settlers in the region to prove the fertility of the soil of the region. The museum is annually decorated with bushels of corn, grass, grain, wheat, straw, wild oats and more.
Enchanted World Doll Museum is a huge toy doll collection of more than four thousand dolls housed in an English style castle which is covered with moats, drawbridges and turrets.
Oscar Howe Art Center is a historical museum with an array of displays including original works of Oscar Howe, James Earle Fraser, Charles Hargens and Gutzon Borglum.
There is also an art center which includes porcupine quill work and American Indian beadwork and the center also displays the history exhibits of Hamlin Garland’s Middle Border from 1600 to 1939.
