Philip is a diminutive city located in the Haakon County of South Dakota in the United States of America at a height of 670 meters above sea level. The city has achieved its name from the famous personality James Scotty Philip. The city is located at a distance of 17 miles to the west of Kadoka, 39.6 miles to the east of Wall and 33 miles to the north of Wanblee. According to the 2000 census the population in the city was found to be 885. The less population clearly indicates that Philip is very less populated city in South Dakota. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town is supposed to have a total area of just 0.6 square miles, out of which entire area is covered by land. The soil here is very nutritious and nourishing hence agriculture is the major occupation of the people here. The city is one of the coolest in South Dakota because of the heavy snowfall of about 12 inches in the months from December till March end. The average temperature ranges around 16 to 18 degrees in maximum part of the year.
